Transform Electoral Systems

MED Advances State-Level Voting Rights Protections

State-level voting rights protections can simultaneously protect a community’s voting rights and enhance community representation on legislative bodies at the local level.

For example, in 2019 a coalition of organizations and advocates from Oregon and around the country successfully lobbied the Oregon legislature to pass the Oregon Voting Rights Act. This act protects voting rights and allows communities to more easily reform their electoral systems in a way that would increase their representation on legislative bodies ranging from school board to county commissions.
